Nagaland Post, May 13, 2008): The National Bee Board (NBB) sponsored a 4-day Apiculture Training to about 25 beekeeping development officials from the North-Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Nagaland from May 6 to 9, 2008 according to the press release issued by Nagaland Bee and Honey Mission (NBHM) member, Chubanungla Shilu.
The NBHM had sent five of its team members along with three officials from Land Resource Development to this training programme. The cooperating centre of the All India Coordinated Project on Honey Bee Research and Training (AICRP) at the Department of Entomology, Assam Agriculture University (AAU) conducted the training course, which included technical sessions by scientists and resource persons of AAU and North Eastern Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat. The practical sessions dealt with hands-on training with bee colonies, extraction, processing, storage and packaging of honey. The trained officials received beekeeping tools and kits.
This is the first of a series of similar training programmes being conducted for all the NE states by the AICRP centre.
The NBHM release adds that the Vice-Chancellor of AAU, Dr. Vaghel was the chief guest at the Valedictory function and handed over certificates to the trainees in the presence of the Course Director Dr. A. Rahman, Director of Research (Agriculture) Dr. R.K. Bhattacharya and a host of faculty members from AAU. The representatives from the three NE states shared their experiences at the training.
